Outfitter & Owner Information
Leonard "Arnie" Gidlow is the owner and outfitter of Missouri Riverside Outfitters & Lodge. When Arnie picked up a fly rod at the age of 10, a lifelong love affair was initiated. As a teenager, Arnie started raising insects in a basement to observe them and learn their habits. Between summer jobs and baseball, flyfishing trips camping in an old station wagon were the highlight of the year. At fourteen, the world of fly-tying gave Arnie new excuses to look for hair, feathers and collect more equipment to the dismay of his mother.
After high school graduation, Arnie pursued a degree in Fisheries Biology that he earned from Montana State University with honors. After his sophomore year in 1977, Arnie got his first guiding job at one of the first lodges in Montana, The Complete Flyfisher on the Big Hole. Arnie has guided every season since, with guiding stops in West Yellowstone, Jackson, WY, Bozeman, MT and now at his own lodge. Arnie has held guide licenses in
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park.
Before starting Missouri Riverside, Arnie taught high school chemistry, physics and biology in the off-season in Montana. Arnie has also been an adjunct faculty for Montana State University School of Technology teaching an accredited college course in flyfishing. Since the early 90's Arnie has been a sought after speaker in trade shows, organizations and private clubs with instructional and informative clinics and seminars.
Arnie's fisheries work at MSU has been included in books, as well as his fly patterns.
Arnie in the off-season, hosts trips around the world to trout and saltwater destinations. His fishing trips have led him to South America, New Zealand, Central America, Canada and all over the U.S.
